Robert G. Mouritsen, "I don't want to delve into mysteries, and I realize that this may be a matter of speculation, but I would like to know, is Jesus the Creator and Redeemer of other worlds besides this one?," Ensign, April 1976.

Other Resources

The resources listed below are related items available on the Web that should be of interest. These links are to information not located on the FAIR Web site.

David B. Cummings, "Three Days and Three Nights: Reassessing Jesus's Entombment," JBMS (City Unknown: FARMS, 2007) Jesus's body lay in the tomb, according to most commentators, during a full day (Saturday) and parts of another two days (Friday afternoon and Sunday morning). Yet, according to one key passage in Matthew's gospel, the Savior drew attention beforehand to this period in the tomb by saying that "the Son of man [will] be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" (Matthew 12:40). The obvious question is, why the apparent discrepancy? Is there a way to look at Jesus's entombment that would reconcile what Jesus says here with what we learn elsewhere? Acareful examination of relevant passages, particularly from the Book of Mormon, which brings an unusual set of evidences to the issue, leads to the conclusion that Jesus's earthly remains were buried Thursday afternoon, not Friday.

Stephen R. Gibson, "Is Lucifer the Brother of Jesus?," One-Minute Answers to Anti-Mormon Questions (Bountiful, Utah: Horizon Publishers) Don't Latter-day Saints have a different Jesus than Orthodox Christians since they teach that Lucifer is a spirit brother of Jesus?

Stephen R. Gibson, "Is the "Mormon Jesus" Unforgiving?," One-Minute Answers to Anti-Mormon Questions (Bountiful, Utah: Horizon Publishers) The Biblical Jesus is very forgiving. How can you say you believe in the same Jesus when the Book of Mormon Jesus is responsible for the deaths of uncounted thousands?

Richard A. Heiner, "The Necessity of a Sinless Messiah," BYU Studies (1982) Christianity intrinsically relates to the earthly mission and atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It relates to the remarkable necessity of a single special individual born into mortality to save all of mankind, this individual to be the first-begotten of the Father in the spirit world and the only-begotten of the Father in this mortal world. Furthermore, and even more remarkable, the saving plan of the Father would entail great suffering to be experienced by this special individual who, among all of the Father’s children, was the only one who had been perfectly obedient from the beginning. This requirement of supreme sacrifice must have been due to persuasive and righteous reasons; otherwise it would not have been part of God’s plan.

Kent P. Jackson, "“Never Have I Showed Myself unto Man”: A Suggestion for Understanding Ether 3:15a," BYU Studies (1990) Ether 3:15a contains a statement from the Lord that sets the brother of Jared apart from everyone who had lived on earth up to his time: “Never have I showed myself unto man whom I have created, for never has man believed in me as thou hast.” The uniqueness of Mahonri Moriancumer’s faith justified the uniqueness of the Lord’s revelation to him. Never, the Lord told him, had anyone experienced such a manifestation—a statement made even more remarkable when we consider that such great individuals as Adam, Eve, Enoch, and Noah had preceded the brother of Jared, and each of these, according to the scriptures, had conversed with God. In this brief essay I will present some ideas concerning the Lord’s statement in Ether 3:15a. After sketching the common explanations proposed for the verse, I will suggest an alternative point of view that is, in my opinion, true to the text and consistent with what we know of the doctrine of God.

Jeff Lindsay, "Questions about Relationships (Between Man, Christ, God, and so forth)," LDS FAQ Are God and Christ the same? Can humans become gods? Was Satan a brother to Christ? Do Mormons worship Adam?

W. Reid Litchfield, "The Search for the Physical Cause of Jesus Christ’s Death," BYU Studies (1997-8) Using both modern medical knowledge and Gospel accounts to study Jesus’ death increases our appreciation for the Atonement. The physical cause of the death of our Lord has occupied the minds and fueled the pens of medical theorists and theologians for centuries. The search for the answer to this diagnostic dilemma has left a windfall of literature and theories that is of tremendous interest to students of the life of Jesus Christ. This essay will review of some of the more prominent theories on the physical cause of the death of Christ: the ruptured heart theory, the asphyxia theory, the cardiovascular collapse theory, the aspiration theory, and the fatal syncope theory. Each of these theories has its merits, along with its probable flaws. I will also address and reject the theory that Jesus did not die on the cross but rather was resuscitated by his followers and then feigned resurrection.

Truman G. Madsen, "The Olive Press," BYU Speeches (9 May 1982) Truman Madsen looks at the symbolism of the olive press as related to Christ's suffering at Gethsemane. (PDF file; also available in MP3 from the "Multimedia" section of the Topical Guide)
