"General authorities' statements as scripture," FAIR Wiki (City Unknown: FAIR) This FAIR Wiki addresses prophets as humans who are fallible like all mortals. It also discusses doctrinal standards and the establishment of new doctrine. "Joseph and Moonmen," FAIR Wiki (City Unknown: FAIR) This FAIR Wiki article responds to the claim, made by critics, that Joseph Smith taught that the moon was inhabited, and that this is proof he was a false prophet. "Racist statements by Church leaders," FAIR Wiki (City Unknown: FAIR) This FAIR Wiki artilce responds to the following questions: Why did past prophets make racist statements? God had already revealed to Peter that he should not call anything that the Lord had made unclean (Acts 10:9–16), yet our modern-day prophets thought that blacks were inferior to whites; why is that? "When the Prophet Speaks, Is the Thinking Done?," (Mesa, Arizona: FAIR, February 2002) An examination of the misconception that the LDS practice blind obedience when it comes to their leadership. Michael R. Ash, "What is Official LDS Doctrine?," (Mesa, Arizona: FAIR, March 2003) FAIR Brochure. How can someone determine what really qualifies as binding LDS doctrine? George Cobabe, The White Horse Prophecy. Sam Katich, "Blind Faith and the LDS," (Mesa, Arizona: FAIR, 22 October 2002) Do Mormons blindly follow their leaders and simply do what they're told? A thoughtful response using the words of LDS leaders. John A. Tvedtnes, "The Mistakes of Men: Can the Scriptures be Error-Free?," (2002 FAIR Conference presentation.) John A. Tvedtnes, "The Nature of Prophets and Prophecy," (Mesa, Arizona: FAIR, January 2003) When is a prophet a prophet? A highly readable examination of what it means to be a prophet and how prophecy should be evaluated. Other ResourcesThe resources listed below are related items available on the Web that should be of interest. These links are to information not located on the FAIR Web site. Michael R. Ash, Declaring the "Word of God". Stephen R. Gibson, "Did Church Leaders Have Weaknesses?," One-Minute Answers to Anti-Mormon Questions (Bountiful, Utah: Horizon Publishers) How can Latter-day Saints believe the LDS Church is true in view of the weaknesses of the early Church leaders? Stephen R. Gibson, "Do Only Prophets Think For the Church?," One-Minute Answers to Anti-Mormon Questions (Bountiful, Utah: Horizon Publishers) Is it true that for members of your church, once the prophet speaks the thinking has been done? Boyd K. Packer, "The Mantle is Far, Far Greater Than the Intellect," BYU Studies (1991) I have come to believe that it is the tendency for many members of the Church who spend a great deal of time in academic research to begin to judge the Church, its doctrine, organization, and leadership, present and past, by the principles of their own profession. Ofttimes this is done unwittingly, and some of it, perhaps, is not harmful. It is an easy thing for a man with extensive academic training to measure the Church using the principles he has been taught in his professional training as his standard. In my mind it ought to be the other way around. A member of the Church ought always, particularly if he is pursuing extensive academic studies, to judge the professions of man against the revealed word of the Lord. Many disciplines are subject to this danger. Over the years I have seen many members of the Church lose their testimonies and yield their faith as the price for academic achievement. Many others have been sorely tested. Let me illustrate. W. John Walsh, The Mark Hoffman Forgeries. If Church leaders are true prophets, why didn't the Lord reveal that the Mark Hoffman documents were forgeries? W. John Walsh, The Salamander Letter & President Hinckley. Did Hoffman's forged Salmander Letter prove that Hinckley wasn't a prophet?
